What is Zen Yoga?

Zen yoga is style of practice that draws its roots from Zen Buddhism, as a preparation for the body and the act of sitting in meditation. It is based on the concept of balancing three areas of wellness—physical alignment, the flow of energy in the body, and mindfulness. Through practicing zen yoga, you can prepare yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally for a deeper, meditative connection with your inner being.


The practice of zen yoga involves movement inspired by tai chi, chi gong and traditional yoga. Postures may vary depending on the instructor, but you can expect a zen yoga class to be less athletic than a vinyasa or power yoga class. Zen yoga can help you achieve a greater sense of physical awareness, along with the following benefits.
