    Namaste everyone.

    Many think yin yoga is restorative in nature, but while it does shift the nervous system into rest and digest, it can be challenging at the same time.
    The practice is one of deepening self awareness – your boundaries, emotions, responses to triggers and, in the still safety of the practice, to be able to sit with the discomfort that arises.

    I hope to use this space to take you behind the scenes, share the science of yin and all the beautiful ways you can make it work for you and encourage you to try it (if you haven’t :))

    I teach Tue, Thu and Sun
    930pm EST, 530am UAE and 1130am Sydney.

    Who can practice: Anyone 🙂 I try to offer as many adaptations as I can.
    Bring cushions, blankets, blocks, bolsters (if you have) to help access certain poses better and set your camera up so I can see you sitting on the mat.

    If you’ve already been practicing yin and even better if you’ve been practicing with me, please share your experience of the practice here on this thread.

      Yin is definitely a unique experience, felt more deeply and rewiring our nervous systems. It’s been a journey of 3 years for me and Yin life living expansion nd peace in new ways with all the additions you bring into it. Thanks for the journey and phenomenal changes Annelise! You’re awesome🥰😍🙏🏻

          My yin journey began with Annelise 5-years ago and what I’ve learned over these years has been immeasurable. From learning to hold the asanas to my personal limit or sometimes a little beyond has proven how my body has come to know itself and how it responds. And this changes day to day! I’ve come to know when I’ve met my limit without forcing and hurting myself. Annelise has also taught us the application of tracing meridians to enhance our asanas in addition to the use of applying essential oils to acupressure points. Both were very new to my practice and I’ve come to love how infusing them and enhancing our bodies with yin yoga. Each month brings a new focus to our class which I really appreciate as the input comes from both the yogis and Annelise, a great joint decision showing the value of everyone’s voice. Thankful for having several choices given for the asanas due to personal limitations and body types, which allows diversity in “one size doesn’t fit all”. If you’re looking for a unique yin yoga experience, this class and what Annelise offers will truly change the way you’ve experienced any yin yoga class, it has certainly been a uniquely and evolving learning experience for me! Thank you Annelise!

                NEW POST: “Wait… what is Yin Yoga?”

                Yin is slow, still, and surprisingly deep.
                We hold poses for a few minutes—not to stretch muscles, but to gently work the joints, fascia, and energy lines.
                It’s not a workout… it’s a softening.


                “So… is it like restorative yoga?”

                They look similar, but feel very different.
                In restorative, the body is fully supported and resting. In Yin, we invite some sensation—just enough to wake up the tissue and energy.
                Still slow, still grounded—but definitely more active in its stillness.


                “Where does this practice come from?”

                Yin is rooted in Daoist philosophy and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
                It’s all about balance—yin and yang, the five elements, and the flow of Chi (energy) through meridians.
                The modern version was shaped by Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers in the ’90s. It’s East-meets-West in the best way.


                Three simple principles:

                Find your edge
                Be still
                Stay for time
                That’s it. No fancy poses. No pushing. Just you, your breath, and what rises up in the quiet.


                “What’s it good for?”

                Honestly… so much:

                Mobility & joint health
                Emotional release (yep, tissues hold memories)
                Calming the nervous system
                Rebalancing your energy
                Yin gives your body and mind space to digest life.


                “But I’m not flexible…”

                Perfect.
                You don’t need to be bendy—Yin meets you exactly where you are.
                We adapt poses for your body, not the other way around.
                I’ve even taught Yin to folks in chairs and beds. Energy flows where attention goes.


                “Do I need special props?”
                Nope.

                A mat, a cushion, maybe a blanket. Or your sofa…
                Yin isn’t about the setup—it’s about the pause.
                (Though I’m a fan of turning household stuff into props. Dining chairs? (ahhaha the kitchen sink!)
